Research Peptide Terminology

Plain-language definitions for common catalog, testing, batch, and laboratory-documentation terms.

Amino acid
A molecular building block used to form peptide and protein chains.
Batch / lot number
An identifier used to connect a group of produced material with its records and documentation.
Certificate of analysis
A document reporting the tests performed on a sample or batch and the resulting data.
Chromatogram
A visual output showing detected components as peaks after chromatographic separation.
Identity testing
Analysis intended to support whether the expected compound is present.
In vitro
Research performed outside a living organism, such as in a controlled laboratory system.
Lyophilized
Freeze-dried under controlled conditions to remove water and produce a dry material.
Peptide bond
The chemical bond connecting amino acids in a peptide chain.
Purity
A method-dependent description of the primary detected component relative to other detected components.
Reconstitution
Preparing a solution from a dry material using an appropriate solvent and laboratory protocol.
Sequence
The ordered arrangement of amino acids in a peptide.
Stability
How well a material maintains defined characteristics under specified conditions over time.
